"MSW" is used as the name of toolkit using the standard Windows UI while
"Windows" is the name of the OS under which wxGTK can be now used too (in
addition to wxMSW).
This terminology is not perfect but at least let's keep it unambiguous.

This fixes linking of the widgets sample when using wxUniv/X11.
It partially reverts the changes of r73290 which only included this file in
some selected ports instead of all of them for some reason.

This solves the problem with wx/defs.h -> wx/platform.h -> wx/setup.h which
resolves to msvc/wx/setup.h -> wx/version.h -> wx/cpp.h include path which
resulted in __VISUALC__ not being defined in wx/cpp.h.
This problem was not new but went unnoticed for a long time and was only
discovered when wxCHECK_VISUALC_VERSION() started being used in wx/cpp.h too
as now the compiler started warning about wrong #if syntax due to it being
undefined.
Putting the compiler-specific definitions in a separate file allows this file
to be included from wx/cpp.h to ensure that these symbols are always defined
in it and also makes things a little better organized.

This reverts r74444 and defines XML_STATIC unconditionally in Expat sources
themselves as we always use the built-in Expat as a static library, so this
solution is simpler and more portable.

Merge with the latest version, mostly discarding our changes to 1.95.6 as they
seem to be unnecessary any longer, keep just bakefile-specific addition to
configure.
Also update our own makefile to define HAVE_EXPAT_CONFIG_H which is now needed
by Unix build.

The library was already present in the makefiles but came before the
monolithic library itself, which broke the linking of the samples when using
GNU ld as the dependent libraries must come after the libraries using them.

Extract wxModalDialogHook from wx/testing.h into its own wx/modalhook.h,
extend it to allow to be notified not only about showing modal dialogs but
also about dismissing them and document it and show its use in the dialogs
sample.
Also replace all the WX_TESTING_SHOW_MODAL_HOOK macros occurrences with
WX_HOOK_MODAL_DIALOG.

Implements native UI for preferences editing. In particular, the API
handles the differences between modal (Windows) and non-modal (OS X) preferences windows and provides platform's native look.
Currently implemented natively for wxOSX/Cocoa, wxGTK and Windows (the latter is used as a fallback generic implementation as well).

Debian distribution target uses GNU make extensions to make syntax which makes
the entire makefile impossible to use with other make versions, e.g. Solaris
make.
Fix this by prepending IF_GNU_MAKE to all Debian-specific lines, there should
be never any need to use them with non-GNU make.

Split wxXmlResourceHandler into an ABC and the real implementation to allow
referencing the ABC in the core library itself but without pulling in all of
the XRC into it. This also allows defining XRC handlers, which only depend on
this ABC and not the xrc library, in other libraries, such as richtext, as
demonstrated by the now enabled wxRichTextXMLHandler.

Add a new private wxTextMeasure class implementing methods for measuring text
and move the often duplicated (but not always identically) code for doing the
same from wxDC and wxWindow into it.
Currently this class is only really implemented in wxMSW and wxGTK.
Also extend the test for text measuring functions and rename it to
MeasuringTextTestCase from MeasuringContextTestCase as it's not wxGC-specific
any more.

USE_RTTI, USE_AUI, USE_PROPGRID, USE_RIBBON, USE_RICHTEXT, USE_STC and USE_XRC
options were not output to the build configuration file, unlike the rest of
them.
Do output those ones as well now for consistency.
Also sort the options corresponding to different wx libraries alphabetically.

wxOSX doesn't provide a native spinner+text control so it used a generic
implementation of wxSpinCtrl but a different one to the version found in
src/generic/spinctlg.cpp.
Just use the real generic version instead, it doesn't make sense to have two
different versions of the same generic control.

This new control allows the program to show one of the several pages without
allowing the user to change them (or even see that there are several of them)
himself.
This class is fully inline, so it doesn't add anything to the library and
hence doesn't need neither wxUSE_SIMPLEBOOK nor the corresponding configure
option.

In an attempt to fix DESTDIR support on platforms without symbolic
links, this commit completely broke the wx-config symlink created by
"make install" everywhere (unless you were insane enough to use
"--prefix=/", that is): $(libdir) is absolute path and so using
../$(libdir) has no chance of working.
Fixed by using `basename $(libdir)`. This is still unsatisfactory,
because it assumes that $(libdir) and $(bindir) are at the same level in
the filesystem -- which, while usually true, is by no means guaranteed.
But at least this works most of the time.

Use libnotify -- if detected by configure -- to provide native notifications
in wxGTK. Our API maps to libnotify one in rather straightforward way, we
might consider extending it to cover more of libnotify functionality
(categories, user-defined icons and, especially, actions) later.
Also update the dialogs sample to show another kind of notification and the
documentation to clarify the behaviour of various methods.

Some libraries (e.g. Pango) were added to GUI_TK_LIBRARY already while others
(e.g. Hildon) had their own EXTRALIBS_HILDON variables that were then added to
EXTRALIBS_GUI separately. Finally, some others were simply broken because
neither EXTRALIBS_GNOMEVFS nor EXTRALIBS_GTKPRINT were set anywhere.
Standardize on using GUI_TK_LIBRARY for everything.

This fixes "make DESTDIR=..." Broken by r71050 but still allows "make
DESTDIR=... install" to work even under MinGW where "ln -s" is mapped to "cp"
and so doesn't work with non-existing first argument.

Refactor the console event loop code into separate files to untangle it from
the GUI version and ensure that it doesn't depend on the GUI at all. It can
now be defined in the base library and simply reused by the core one.
This also makes the console event loop usable for other ports under Windows,
e.g. wxGTK.

Still accept "amd64" as a valid TARGET_CPU value but also accept, and
encourage people to use, "x64".
Add a new section about the build system changes to the change log and added a
mini-TOC to it to make navigating it a bit easier and show what changes are
there at a glance.

For the official builds (only), include the compiler version and the
architecture suffix, unless it's the default x86, into the DLL names, to allow
their concurrent installations for multiple compiler versions and architectures.

Make wxEntry(HINSTANCE, ...) available in wxGTK under Windows too.
Refactor the headers to allow this and extract Windows-specific wxEntry()
declarations in wx/msw/init.h from wx/msw/app.h for consistency with the
normal wxEntry(int, char**) declared in wx/init.h.

These headers don't exist in official distributions as they're renamed to
setup.h in them. Moreover, they don't need to be installed anyhow when using
configure as the real setup.h is installed specially, so there is no real need
to have them in the list of headers.

The built-in of /bin/sh doesn't handle "-n" option that we use (at least not
under OS X 10.6), so we were getting "-n APPL????" in the generated files.
Fix this by using /bin/echo which does support this option.

Define _CRT_SECURE_NO_DEPRECATE, _CRT_NON_CONFORMING_SWPRINTFS and
_SCL_SECURE_NO_WARNINGS when using makefiles to build the library too for
consistency with the project files.
These defines are only needed for VC8 and later but should do no harm for the
previous versions.

MS and Apple guidelines mention ellipses should generally be used when a command needs additional information from the user before the operation can execute. This is not the case for showing an about dialog so the ellipses have been removed.

The company behind MGL toolkit (SciTech) doesn't exist since several years and
this port is not used by anybody, so remove it to ease maintenance burden.

We already define the symbols needed to disable the warnings in wx/defs.h but
this isn't enough for third party code not including it, so define them in the

Fix linking errors when using wxXML in sttaic monolithic build: in this case
we must link with expat but it was listed too early, before wxWidgets
libraries using it, in the bakefile-generated makefiles.
Now add it to the end of the linker command line too by including -lexpat in
EXTRALIBS_FOR_BASE which are appended to the linker arguments.
Notice that now -lexpat is linked twice because it is still added by
<wx-lib>xml</wx-lib> in bakefiles, even in monolithic build, but I don't know
how to avoid it and it is harmless anyhow.

Use NSDatePicker to implement both of these controls. Almost all of
wxDatePickerCtrl styles are not supported in the native version but the basic
functionality does work and looks much better than the generic version (which
is still available as wxDatePickerCtrlGeneric if needed) under Mac.

The webview library wasn't linked in correctly when using MSW bakefile
presets. Fix this by adding the corresponding <sys-lib> for it (this needs to
be done for MSW only, under Unix it's handled by wx-config).

Due to a typo in files.bkl (${...} was used instead of $(...) so the variable
didn't get really dereferenced), the web view headers were not included in the
list of all headers and hence not installed by "make install" under Unix.

It can be used to show more customizable tooltips than the native wxToolTip
but at the price of using generic implementation in some cases (actually
almost always now, with the exceptions of text control tooltips under MSW).
Extra features include:
- The balloon-like tooltip form.
- Possibility to show an icon.
- Title display in a different form.
More customization could be added later. It should be also possible to fully
implement this class natively under MSW.
Update the dialogs sample to show the rich tooltips in action.

Move SetShape() implementation from wxTopLevelWindow to wxNonOwnedWindow so
that wxPopupWindow, which also inherits from the latter, could use it as well.
This makes it possible to have popup windows with irregular shapes in wxGTK as
well as in wxMSW and wxOSX.

wxCustomBackgroundWindow is a new class allowing to set a custom bitmap for
the background of any window. The relevant code was mostly moved from wxPanel
to which it was added only recently (before 2.9.2) making it unnecessary to
preserve compatibility.

This is a facade for wxDataViewCtrl allowing to easily work with multi-column
trees, possibly with an optional checkbox in the first column. Its API is very
similar to wxTreeListCtrl and it provides a simple migration path from the
latter.
Add the class itself, documentation for it and minimal unit tests.

Buttons had a border of wxBORDER_NONE resulting in wxButton::DoDraw not drawing the button's border. Fixed by adding wxAnyButton::GetDefaultBorder() for wxUniv which returns wxBORDER_STATIC. Regression since r67931.

Add wxItemId<> template which can be used to identify items in different
{tree,list}-like controls, including wxDataViewCtrl (where it replaces, in
backwards compatible way, wxDataViewItem), wxTreeCtrl (where it replaces

Avoid defining SetImageList() in several different places in wx API as not
only this resulted in (trivial) code duplication but this method also had
different semantics before: it didn't take ownership of the pointer passed to
it in wxTreeCtrl, wxListCtrl and wxBookCtrl and derived classes but did take
its ownership in wxDataViewTreeCtrl and wxRichTextFormattingDialog.
Harmonize this for all the classes now: SetImageList() never takes ownership
while AssignImageList() (which is now available in all classes having
SetImageList()) always does.
Also add convenience wxWithImages::GetImage() helper to avoid (more) code
duplication in wxDataViewTreeCtrl code.

Introduce wxAnyButton class, a common base class for wxButton and
wxToggleButton, allowing to reuse the same implementation for them.
This also allows to implement support for bitmaps in wxToggleButton for all
platforms and make wxBitmapToggleButton a trivial subclass of it everywhere,
similarly to wxBitmapButton and wxButton.

Move src/msw/hyperlink.cpp and include/wx/msw/hyperlink.h to
ADVANCED_MSW_NATIVE_SRC/HDR from ADVANCED_MSW_SRC/HDR respectively to ensure
that these files are not used in wxUniv build that uses its own, generic,
versions.
This should fix wxUniv/MSW build as the native files didn't even compile with
wxUniv.

Add wxTextCompleter class which allows to return the possible completions
dynamically and wxTextCompleter::AutoComplete() overload using it. So far this
is only implemented for wxMSW.
Also fix calling wxTextEntry::AutoComplete(wxArrayString) multiple times under
MSW, this didn't correctly update the list of shown completions before.

Applied patch by snowleopard2 fixing a bunch of typos such as misspellings and double words in the documentation. Combined the patch with some local queued typos waiting to be committed as well as adding new typo fixes inspired by the patch.
Function names with American spelling were not changed nor was third-party code touched. The only code changes involve some changes in strings that are translated ("Can not" -> "Cannot").

This method provides a simple way to set a background bitmap without defining
an EVT_ERASE_BACKGROUND handler and, more importantly, one that works
correctly in wxMSW for a window with children as it paints the background of
transparent children too.
Add a test of this method to the erase sample.

So far we have only wxMSW-specific implementation (and also a trivial

wxMarkupText is a private class that implements generic handling of markup
strings, i.e. can measure them and render them onto a wxDC.
This class will be used for markup support in wxMSW wxButton.
Also add wxMarkupParserAttrOutput which will be useful for other wxMarkupText
implementations.

PNG images are used by the main wxWidgets library itself now and so linking
with the monolithic wx library introduces dependencies on PNG as well, even
for the console applications. Link them with linpng to avoid linker errors.

wxCompositeWindow<> is a convenient base class for composite windows, i.e.
windows consisting of several other wxWindows. Currently it just automatically
forwards various attributes setters calls to all of the composite window parts
but it could become more useful in the future.
Similarly, for now it is only used in wxDatePickerCtrlGeneric but it could
(and should) be used for other composite controls later and we probably should
even make this class public to allow its use in the client code.

The icons are embedded as PNG images directly in the source code to avoid the
need for installing them. This does make the library larger though so provide
a wxUSE_ARTPROVIDER_TANGO option to turn the new code and associated bloat off.
Also turn it off by default under wxGTK as the native art provider is used
there anyhow.

wxMSW wxCommandLinkButton implementation shouldn't be used in wxUniv so move
src/msw/commandlinkbutton.cpp and include/wx/msw/commandlinkbutton.h to
ADVANCED_MSW_NATIVE_{SRC,HDR} from ADVANCED_MSW_{SRC,HDR} in files.bkl and
rebake the makefiles.
This fixes wxUniv/MSW compilation.

Add simple wxVersionInfo class holding the version information.
Also add GetLibraryVersionInfo() static method to wx{JPEG,PNG,TIFF}Handler,
wxStyledTextCtrl and wxXmlDocument classes and wxGetZlibVersionInfo() and
wxGetLibraryVersionInfo() global functions using it.

wxScintilla code uses wxVector<> which brings in wxDEBUG_LEVEL-dependent code
so we must use the wxDEBUG_LEVEL value consistent with the rest of the library
when building it.
Simply pass wxDEBUG_LEVEL definition on the compiler command line if it's
different from the default.

We need WXUSINGDLL even in monolithic build because Scintilla references wx
debugging functions (wxOnAssert(), wxTheAssertHandler &c) which still must be
seen as being exported from the (monolithic) DLL in this case.

Previously used macro's arguments were evaluated twice, but there were
many occurences of their use in our code that didn't account for this

Some samples are by definition Windows-only so they don't have Makefile.in

Compilation of wxScintilla with Borland failed because -D_UNICODE was not
passed on command line resulting in mismatches between wxChar and Windows
TCHAR. It's a mystery why this didn't happen with the other compilers but
defining _UNICODE for them too can't hurt.

This file was empty and unused any more so simply remove it and all references

If available, the task dialog is now used for the wxProgressDialog under
Windows. This provides a much more native looking dialog which doesn't look
out of place under modern Windows versions, unlike the generic implementation.
The internals of the code had to be significantly changed as the task dialog
can only be shown modally so, to emulate wxProgressDialog modeless nature, a
separate thread is used for the progress dialog management.

This is a generalization of wxMessageDialog based on the native task dialog
under recent (Vista and later) Windows versions and implemented generically
for the other ports for now.
It provides the possibility to use additional controls in the message boxes
(checkbox useful for the "Don't ask me again" kind of dialogs and collapsible
detailed explanations field) and better look and feel under Windows.

A command link button wraps a native MSW control under recent Windows versions
and is implemented generically as a simple bitmap button elsewhere.
In the future, GTK implementation should allow using a different font for the
button label and its note.

In monolithic builds wxscintilla is linked directly into the one and only wx
DLL and doesn't need to import anything from it, WXUSINGDLL is only needed in
multilib case when wxscintilla is part of wxCore DLL and does need to import
symbols (e.g. wxQsort() used by wxVector) from wxBase one.

Collect all preprocessor options needed for Scintilla compilation in
wxscintilla_cppflags template and use for both Scintilla compilation itself
and for the wx libraries using it.
The order of flags in the makefiles has changed but they are still the same
except for Borland makefile which now includes Borland-specific warning
suppression option everywhere it's needed and not just in multilib targets.

GTK+ provides GtkRecentManager for this purpose since 2.10. Use it in
wxFileHistory if available. Integration is simple, we just add a file to
GtkRecentManager in addition to normal wxFileHistory handling.
A well-behaved GNOME application would use GtkRecentManager as the
primary store for recent files, so that it reflects when the user works
with supported files in another editor(s) too. But for now, this is much
better than no support at all.

To make the code more manageable, intl.h now contains wxLocale and
translation.h all translations-related stuff (wxTranslations, _() etc.).
Code generated by genlang.py was moved into its own files (language.h,

Only keep common code in the base class and extract all menu/listbox-specific
stuff into derived classes.
This makes the code cleaner and more maintainable but introduces some problems

This commit adds no changes in functionality but paves way for the upcoming
improvements of wxDataViewCustomRenderer.
First, introduce wxDataViewCustomRendererBase class in order to allow
implementing behaviour common to custom renderers in all ports in this class
instead of triplicating it.
This required splitting monolithic dataview.h in more parts, now we have
wx/dvrenderer.h which defines wxDataViewRendererBase and the new
wxDataViewCustomRendererBase and includes wx/port/dvrenderer.h which define
wxDataViewRenderer and wx/port/dvrenderers.h which defines all the other
renderer classes.
Also bring renderers hierarchy in the generic version closer to other ports:
all standard renderer classes now inherit from wxDataViewRenderer and not
wxDataViewCustomRenderer in for consistency with the other ports.
wxDataViewRenderer itself still does derive from wxDataViewCustomRendererBase,
unlike elsewhere, but this is unavoidable considering that all generic
renderers are custom ones.
Finally do some cleanup in OS X part of the code: correct indentation,
spacing, comment style.

Currently wxEventLoopSource can't be created directly and can only be used to
monitor file descriptors so reduce the API to just wxEventLoop::AddSourceForFD()
and remove AddSource(), RemoveSource() and RemoveAllSources() which couldn't
be implemented for all ports. This makes the code much simpler without any
loss of functionality.
Make wxEventLoopSource responsible for removing itself from the event loop
when it is deleted. This allows to remove IsOk() and Invalidate() methods
making the code simpler and gets rid of various sets/maps which were used
before.
This also allows to support event loop sources in Carbon as well: wxOSX/Carbon
now compiles and works with wxUSE_FSWATCHER==1.

If a non-default COMPILER_PREFIX was specified when building wxWidgets, we

Straightforward implementation of wxInfoBar using GtkInfoBar widget available
in GTK+ 2.18.
Some side effects of this change:
- Rename wxInfoBar version in wx/generic/infobar.h to wxInfoBarGeneric and
define wxInfoBar in wx/infobar.h.
- Also change default value of flags argument to ShowMessage() to
wxICON_INFORMATION from wxICON_NONE as the default colour for wxICON_NONE
messages is surprisingly ugly in GTK native version.

It doesn't make sense to select debug or release build of wxWidgets any more
as they are now compatible under Unix. Under Windows the option is still
needed but it selects the build using debug (or not) version of the CRT rather
than the one built with __WXDEBUG__ defined.

This fixes linking problems under Unix introduced by recent changes which
fixed previous problems which were due to files not being linked in at all.
In order to provide a clean separation between base, net and core libraries we
now use the same wxSocketManager (wxSocketFDBasedManager), defined in net
library for both console and GUI Unix applications and just use different FD
IO manager for them: the latter can be defined in base and core libraries as
it doesn't involve wxSocketImpl at all, only its base wxFDIOHandler class.
At more detailed level, these changes required:
1. Adding the new wxFDIOManager class.
2. Refactoring the old (and now removed) wxSocketFDIOManager to use the same
code as wxSocketFDIOManager. This involved:
a) Adding handler and direction parameter to RemoveInput().
b) Storing the mask of registered events in wxFDIOHandler itself.
c) Defining wxFDIOManagerUnix which works with wxFDIODispatcher.
3. Changing the traits classes in Unix ports to define GetFDIOManager()
instead of GetSocketManager().

The low level files are those which are used by wxUniversal and so shouldn't
